Install at least one conventional CO detector near or within each separate sleeping area.
For additional protection, install at least one conventional CO detector on each level of the home. If you have a basement, install conventional CO detector at the top of the basement stairs.
For additional protection, install an additional conventional CO detector at least 20 feet (6 meters) away from the furnace or fuel burning heat source.

Any extremely dusty, dirty or greasy areas.
Closer than 20 feet from a furnace or other fuel burning heat source, or fuel burning appliances like a water heater.
