For buildings over 12m, installing two or more types of smoke detectors for smoke detection during a fire is suitable. The best solution is to use beam smoke detectors and aspirating smoke detectors.

The installation of beam smoke detectors shall meet the following requirements:

1. The detectors should be installed on the top floor of the building.

2. The detectors should be installed at different heights and in the form of networking.

3. When the building is over 12m but under 16m, it is suggestible to install additional detectors at 6m~7m.

4. When the building is over 16m but under 26m, it is suggestible to install additional detectors at 6m~7m and 11m~12m.

5. When the airflow formed by opening windows or air conditioning system is at 7m~13m, additional detectors can be installed 1m below it.

6. The smoke detectors installed at different heights can provide coverage up to 100m², and they can be interleaved with the detectors installed below.

 

The installation of aspirating smoke detectors shall meet the following requirements:

1. The sampling pipes of the smoke detector should be installed horizontally and vertically. And make sure that at least set two sample ports below 16m, and there should be two sample ports installed 1m below the airflow formed by opening windows or air conditioning system.

2.The sample ports can be installed at the air inlet to help the smoke detector detect smoke that hasn’t flowed up to the ceiling yet.

 

The beam smoke detectors together with the aspirating smoke detectors are suitable for large warehouses, indoor playgrounds and gymnasiums, theaters, etc. Using them together in these places can help detect the smoke from early fire sooner and avoid serious damage.
